Thank you to http://lingeringvisions.wordpress.com/ for sharing this picture that has served as such a wonderful inspiration! I hope you like the scene I’ve created with it.

As is the custom, use the third definition of the word and write 33-333 words.

APPEAR
1a : to be or come in sight
b : to show up
2: to come formally before an authoritative body
3: to have an outward aspect : seem

This is just a hypothetical scene for Swiftly Swings, one that could later appear (1a), or not…

‘Could it be?’

‘Do you think it is?’

‘I’m not sure what I think it is.’

The trio stood at ground level looking down between the profuse blooms in the flowerbeds. What they spied was a very old looking door. A door that seemed to lead no where. A door without steps leading down to it, even. It was just a buried door. At least, that’s what it appeared to be. But, there was still a lingering doubt in their mind about whether or not they’d stumbled on an ancient burial tomb, a wine cellar, or one of the Enclave entrances. No matter what the door truly was, it was obvious that they didn’t want anything to do with it.

‘I heard that the last one to come up from the creche’s is set to appear before a specially elected tribunal tomorrow.’

‘I heard that they’re gonna shoot her.’

‘Me, too.’

Just then, one of the faculty advisors appeared behind them, silently listening to their gossip. He cleared his throat as they spun around. ‘It would appear to me that you have better things to do than bothering with Healer Tamai’s flower beds. And as for the door… appearances aren’t always what they appear to be. Now, off with ya!’

  1. That’s a wonderful picture. There’s always some curmudgeon screwing up the fun, isn’t there? I’m a curmudgeon, though I try not to be a killjoy unless someone’s being hurt at someone else’s expense.
