“Captain America Strikes Again…”

It was some freak thought I had way back before the sky was blue. At least, it seemed to be that long ago; but with my memory the way it is these days, it could have been last hour. Doesn’t really matter, it’s just that the idea was one of those things that you don’t think of as normal.

I was sitting there having my morning Java, when I looked up and out the window and saw a giant freak of nature standing on the corner and waving. I blinked several times just to make sure that what I was seeing was real and not a caffeine induced hallucination, but it was real alright. There it was, a 6′ 7″ specimen of insanity dressed in red-white-and-blue spandex and carrying a cardboard shield covered with aluminum foil and spray painted in gold. I rolled my eyes and sighed. It was time to pull out the cell phone.

“Hello, Shady Lane Retirement Center…yes, Mr. Freak escaped again. He’s doing his impersonation of Captain America this time. … Nah, don’t bother rushing, everyone thinks he’s a real whoot! I’ll bring him back when he wears out.” I disconnected and looked back out the window. “Gotta love my freak of a Dad!”

  1. Words are so interesting having several meanings. Context…content. I knew folks who like to extend Freak…’ and use it as ever other word as if it makes what ever they are talking about more ‘colorful’ or real. As if they are adding a hot pepper spice. Wanting to make you just jump a little with the flavor.
