There I was, sitting on the town hall steps at three in the blessed morning waiting for the phone to ring. It was important; the call, that is. It was a call coming from the middle of the war, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to miss it! I missed the last one. My head drooped and before I could come to my senses, the phone had stopped ringing, so I was damned if I was going to miss this call. The phone rang…I leapt for the reciever excited to hear his voice.
‘Hello, This is Colonel Sam. I regret to inform you…’
Oh my!
Scott
Mine:
sad.. but well done !
thank you! I’ll get around to reading everyone’s sometime this packed weekend! I’m looking forward to yours!
A sad ending, but well written. It makes missing the earlier call even more heartbreaking.
Yes, it does. I remember long nights waiting for the local payphone to ring to hear my loved one’s voice from the war, so it’s a bit close to home. Not the ending though. When that happened, they came to my door in the middle of the night.
Sorry this happened to you in reality, Buffy. I’ll admit to wondering at the ending after having lived through the death of a military loved one.
It wasn’t pleasant, that’s for sure and for certain, but I managed. Didn’t have anyone to turn to anyway, not back then.
It would make a terrible situation even worse if you had missed talking with your loved one that last time. Very sad. Heartfelt thanks to all who serve and all their families ad well.
A blessed Memorial Day to you,
janet

Dear Buffy,
A sad tale and a good time to remember the sacrifices made on our behalf.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Not the call she was hoping for I take it.
Most definitely not!
Very sad. Her determination to be there comes across really well. I really like this.
