Friday Fictioneers ~ The Call.

There I was, sitting on the town hall steps at three in the blessed morning waiting for the phone to ring. It was important; the call, that is. It was a call coming from the middle of the war, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to miss it! I missed the last one. My head drooped and before I could come to my senses, the phone had stopped ringing, so I was damned if I was going to miss this call. The phone rang…I leapt for the reciever excited to hear his voice.

‘Hello, This is Colonel Sam. I regret to inform you…’

    • Yes, it does. I remember long nights waiting for the local payphone to ring to hear my loved one’s voice from the war, so it’s a bit close to home. Not the ending though. When that happened, they came to my door in the middle of the night.

  1. It would make a terrible situation even worse if you had missed talking with your loved one that last time. Very sad. Heartfelt thanks to all who serve and all their families ad well.

A blessed Memorial Day to you,
